A microlearning platform that uses game techniques, conversational design, and artificial intelligence in 5-minute learning journeys. Joco (knowledge journeys) was born at outracoisa* and became a spin-off to gain special attention.

The Challenge
How does Homo Distractus learn?
Transforming people's idle minutes into new learning opportunities throughout their days is Joco's mission. In an age of increasingly distracted learning, distance learning as we know it seems insufficient to connect people to content. Increasing interactivity to broaden the channels of connection was the chosen path.

The Process
Gathering certainties with real customers
The guiding concept (which we later came to recognize as microlearning) was to break down large knowledge bases into small, 5-minute experiences, which we called journeys. Outracoisa's extensive experience in conversational design, chatbots, and virtual assistants allowed us to experiment with a new microlearning format, with content delivered in conversational form. The idea that would become Joco was born from demands identified in different market segments and grew into pilot applications of the methodology in different contexts. The conversational journey model was applied to projects with large user bases, such as the Rock in Rio chatbot, winner of the Chatbot of the Year award (Chatbot Brasil), which provided us with important feedback for the next steps, when we would transform the pilot applications into a robust platform.

In Joco, the user defines their own paths, and the entire product is shaped by these choices. Unlike courses and video repositories, Joco is an arsenal of interactivity capable of enchanting people, breaking down the barrier of indifference and increasing the potential for knowledge absorption.

The Solution
Gamified, Multi-format, Intelligent
Joco is a learning platform using a proprietary methodology that generates learning in 5-minute conversational journeys. Joco's products are multi-format, gamified, and intelligent. Multi-format because the content uses format switching as a way to connect, with texts, mosaics, interactive videos, GIFs, and PDFs. Gamified because the platform offers scores, medals, rankings, and mechanisms that demonstrate a sense of progression, analogous to games. And last but not least, the platform is intelligent because the content is generated according to each user's profile, determined both by answers to personal questions (anamnesis) and by the user's successes, failures, and choices within the platform. All data obtained from the user's navigation on Joco is transformed into personalized insights by AI.


Results
A proven seductive format
By 2021, Joco had already been used by a wide range of brands and audiences. Editora Moderna offers more than 120 journeys, providing a complementary experience to textbooks for students in grades 6 to 9. Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein uses Joco to follow hundreds of patients who have undergone procedures such as tracheostomies, heart surgeries, and Alzheimer's after they leave the hospital. Grupo Globo uses the platform to assist in the digital transformation of its employees, offering topics such as Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, and AR/VR. Nestlé uses Joco as a way to encourage families to eat healthier. Natura uses the platform to teach its consultants about personal finance, entrepreneurship, and technology. The examples are extensive, each with its own challenges, but always with well-above-average results.
